A Telegram bot or a website: what to choose

Bot or website: it depends not on the budget but on where your clients are and what they need to do. Three questions, price ranges and when you need both.

In short. One rule: wherever your clients are, that is where the product goes. They write in Telegram — a bot: the simplest one costs from 3 000 ₴. They search on Google or come from ads — a website: a landing page costs from 8 000 ₴. Often the right answer is both: the website collects requests from search, the bot runs the dialogue, and requests from both end up in a CRM.

“Which is better — a bot or a website?” is the question people ask when the budget is tight and they want to get it right the first time. The honest answer: they are not competitors but tools for different tasks. Below is how they differ, three questions that settle it, ranges from our price list and the cases when you need both.

How they really differ

The difference is not about which is “cooler” but about where the client comes from and what they need to do in one go.

Three questions that settle it

  • Where do the clients come from? They write in Telegram — a bot. They search on Google or click on ads — a website.
  • What does the client need to do? Book, order, get an answer or a reminder — that is a bot's strength. Compare, read, make sure and leave a request — a website's.
  • What is already there? If a website already works, there is no need to rebuild it: a Telegram layer can be added on top — notifications or a bot over the existing database. That is a separate price-list row: 6 000–25 000 ₴.

When a bot is enough

  • Booking services — a salon, a clinic, a car service, a tutor: 6 000–14 000 ₴. Details — in the article on a booking bot.
  • Taking orders — a coffee shop, delivery, a small shop: 7 000–15 000 ₴. How it works with payment — in the article on a shop bot.
  • Requests and common questions — services, courses, experts: a business-card bot, 3 000–6 000 ₴.

If your clients already write in Telegram, a bot alone does the job: a business-card bot launches from 1 day after the start, and a bot needs no domain. What else a bot can do — seven scenarios in the article a chatbot for business.

When you need a website

  • Clients look for you in search. Someone searching for a service on Google lands on a website, not in a bot.
  • You are launching ads. Ads need a page to send the traffic to: a landing page for one offer is 8 000–17 000 ₴.
  • Clients compare for a long time. Services with a long decision, B2B — people read about you first and write later. This is where a company website works: 20 000–60 000 ₴.
  • A shop for buyers from search. Filters, delivery cost calculation, integrations with Nova Poshta and a CRM — an online shop website: 20 000–150 000 ₴.

More about the stages and prices — in the article a turnkey website.

When you need both

A combination is a normal answer, not overspending. Typical pairs:

  • Services and B2B: a website for search and ads plus a business-card bot for those who write in Telegram, with requests from both going into a CRM.
  • A salon or a clinic: a landing page for ads brings in new clients, the bot handles the booking and reminds them of the visit.
  • A shop: a catalogue website for search, while the bot sends notifications about orders and statuses.

The order is simple: first the place where clients come, then an integration — the place where requests land. Linking two systems is 6 000–25 000 ₴; details — in the article on CRM and Telegram integration. Each stage is estimated separately, so there is no need to pay for everything at once.

Three typical mistakes

  • A website “for credibility” when the clients are in Telegram. The page exists, but requests still come into private messages. If clients already write in a messenger, start with a bot and add a website when you go into search or ads.
  • A bot instead of a website for ads and search. Someone searching on Google or coming from an ad expects a page with a description, prices and a form — this calls for a landing page or a website.
  • Everything at once. A website, a bot, a Mini App and a CRM in one stage mean a big budget up front and a long launch. Start with where the clients come from and add the rest in stages: each one ends with a demo and a payment, so you pay for the next one having seen the previous one.

What about a Mini App?

A Mini App is the third option: an app inside Telegram with screens, a catalogue, a cart and an account. It is needed when the bot's buttons are no longer enough but the clients are still in Telegram. The entry point is higher: from 25 000 ₴. A comparison with a bot — in the article Mini App or a bot. We do not build native iOS and Android apps — we will say so honestly and pass the task on to a partner.

You can work out the range for your own task in the calculator and describe it in your own words in the brief. What each format includes is on the Telegram bots and Websites pages.

FAQ: common questions about choosing between a bot and a website

Which is cheaper — a bot or a website?

Compare the entry points: a business-card bot is from 3 000 ₴, a landing page from 8 000 ₴. But it is the tasks that are worth comparing, not the prices: a bot will not replace a website for those who search for you on Google, and a website will not replace a bot for those who already write in Telegram.

Can we start with a bot and add a website later?

Yes, and the other way round. Each stage is estimated separately, and requests from the bot and the website can later be brought into one CRM or spreadsheet.

Does a bot need a domain?

No: a bot lives inside Telegram. A domain is needed for a website and a Mini App; it is registered in your name and is not part of the project price.

Who runs the bot and the website after launch?

You do — through an admin panel or by following a guide, depending on the spec. Or a support subscription from 3 000 ₴ a month, or ad-hoc work at 1 500 ₴ an hour. After delivery there is a 7-day warranty: fixes within the spec are free.
